Lake Victoria:The greatest African Lake

Lake Victoria is one of the greatest African  Lake.The lake was named after Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, by John Hanning Speke.John Hanning Speke is the first European to discover this lake.Lake Victoria, also called Victoria Nyanza.

Lake Victoria is the world's second largest freshwater lake.With a surface area regarding 68, 800 square kilometres.It contains about 2,750 cubic kilometers (2.2 billion acre-feet) of water.By the area lake  Victoria is Africa’s largest lake and  the largest tropical lake in the world.Lake Victoria will be the planet's 2nd biggest freshwater lake by surface area.Regarding its size, Lake Victoria would be the globe's 9th biggest continental body of water.It's got an irregular coastline and many tiny islands.Numerous streams, including the Kagera River, feed Lake Victoria, which is one of the chief headwater reservoirs of the Nile.The Victoria Nile drains the actual lake towards the north.At the Nalubaale and Kiira dams around the Victoria Nile the  lake's water are used to come up with hydroelectricity.

The Lake Victoria region is one of the most densely populated in Africa; within 50 miles (80 km) of its shores live several million people, nearly all Bantu-speaking. There are local steamer services around the lake.The lake is a significant fishery, but fish stocks and variety have declined since the 1980s as a result of overfishing and the introduction of the Nile perch.The lake has  suffered uncontrolled water hyacinth proliferation.Finally Lake Victoria is a wonderful creation of nature.
