Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam’s
top attractive places. The name "Ha Long" means "where the
dragon dismount into the sea". Ha Long is straightly translated as
"Bay of Descending Dragons". Halong Bay is located in Quáng Ninh
province, Vietnam.Administratively, the bay belongs to Hạ Long City, Cẩm Phả
town, and part of Van Don district.
The bay features thousands of limestone
karsts and also isles in different sizes and shapes. Ha Long Bay has an area of
around 1,553 km2, with 1,960–2,000 islets.The islets are made with
limestone.The limestone in Halong Bay has gone through 500 million years of
formation in several conditions and environments.The evolution of the karst in
this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet
climate.This Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal
species.
There are five grottoes and caves make Halong Bay very beautiful.These
are Dau Go Grotto,Thien Cung Cave,Sung Sot Cave,Luon Cave,Trinh Nu (Virgin)
Grotto.The climate of the bay is tropical, wet, sea islands, with two
seasons.The hot and moist summer, and another is the dry and cold winter.The
normal heat range is from 15°C- 25°C.The annual rainfall is among 2000mm and
2200mm.The core zone of Hạ Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site
according to criterion vii, and listed for a second time according to criterion
viii,in 1994.
